Just as the outermost sphere emulates the Primary Mover through simple circular motion, each planetary system emulates its subordinate mover through its own complex (but still eternal and circular) combination of motions.

  • Mover to Mover: Aristotle is less explicit about the relationship between the movers themselves. However, the hierarchy is clear. The Primary Mover is the ultimate principle, "first" in the series. Its existence and activity are the ultimate explanation for the entire cosmic order. The subordinate movers, while also being pure, eternal intellects, are "second" and so on. They are part of a unified, ordered system that is ultimately directed toward the single perfection of the Primary Mover.

The entire cosmos can be seen as a grand chorus. The Primary Mover is the conductor and the ultimate standard of perfection. The subordinate movers are like section leaders, and the celestial spheres are the performers, each striving to perfectly execute its part in imitation of its leader, contributing to a single, unified, eternal performance.
