Designing Single-Purpose Landing Pages

Hello! Welcome to the third lesson in our module on building high-converting landing pages.

In our previous lessons, you deconstructed the architecture of a great landing page and then learned to write the persuasive copy to fill it, using AI-assisted frameworks like AIDA and PAS. You now have the blueprint and the raw materials.

Today, we transition from planning to production. This lesson will guide you through the practical steps to build a single-purpose landing page using a template in a tool like Carrd, Webflow, or Unbounce. We'll assemble the components and copy we've discussed into a functional webpage, bringing your SaaS idea one step closer to reality.

Choosing Your Builder: Speed vs. Power vs. Optimization

Your goal is to launch and scale multiple SaaS companies, so choosing the right tool for the right stage is crucial. You wouldn't use a complex enterprise framework for a simple script, and the same principle applies here. Let's look at three popular choices for SaaS founders.

Tool Best For Learning Curve Cost Key Advantage
Carrd Idea validation, MVPs, waitlists, simple lead magnets Very Low $ Speed & Simplicity. Go from idea to live page in under an hour.
Webflow Custom branded marketing sites, interactive designs Medium $$ Power & Flexibility. No-code but with the control a developer appreciates.
Unbounce Paid ad campaigns, A/B testing, conversion optimization Low-Medium $$$ Conversion Focus. Built from the ground up to maximize leads and sales.

Given your goal of rapid-fire SaaS launches, Carrd is an outstanding starting point. It's built for speed and forces the discipline of a single-purpose page. Once an idea is validated and needs a more robust marketing site, Webflow is a natural next step. When you're ready to invest heavily in paid ads, Unbounce becomes your tool for optimization.

For this lesson, we'll focus on the fastest path to a live page: Carrd. We'll then look at the more advanced workflow in Webflow as a preview of how to scale up your presentation.

Assembling the Landing Page

Remember the core components of a high-converting landing page. Your goal in the builder is to populate a template with these elements, using the compelling copy you've already crafted.

This template showcases the essential sections we've discussed: a clear hero section with headline and CTAs, a product visual (hero shot), and social proof. Your task is to customize a similar template with your own content.

Building a Landing Page with Carrd (in under 30 minutes)

Carrd is designed for speed. Its simplicity is its greatest strength, especially when you're testing a new idea. Let's walk through the process.

1. Getting Started: Sign Up and Choose a Template

The first step is the easiest. Carrd offers a range of templates that provide a solid starting structure.

Carrd Tutorial for Beginners (How To Make) 10 Step Guide

This guide from Tempeld.com provides a great text-based walkthrough of the entire Carrd process. We'll use it as a reference as we build.

Read sections '2. Planning Your Website' and '3. Getting Started'. This will quickly orient you on the initial steps, from planning your sections to choosing a starting template. Pay attention to the Pro plan pricing—at $19/year, it's an extremely affordable way to launch multiple projects.

2. The Carrd Builder: Customizing Your Template

Once you've selected a template, you'll enter the Carrd editor. The interface is intuitive: you click an element on the page, and its properties appear in a sidebar for you to edit.

This video gives a fantastic, real-time demonstration of building a page in Carrd.

Building a Carrd Landing Page in 10 Minutes!

Watch this video from Craylor to see just how fast you can assemble a page in Carrd. The presenter builds two different sites, demonstrating the core mechanics of the editor.

Watch from the beginning to 06:51, and then from 06:51 to 14:21. Focus on how the presenter: Selects a template. Clicks on text, images, and buttons to edit them in the sidebar. Deletes unneeded sections and elements. Integrates an email sign-up form.

3. Key Actions in Carrd

Based on the video and the tutorial, here are the essential steps to customize your template:

  • Edit Text: Click any text element. Use the sidebar to replace the placeholder copy with your AI-generated headlines and descriptions.
  • Replace Images: Click on the placeholder image. Upload your own "hero shot" or other visuals. (We'll cover creating these visuals in the next lesson!)
  • Configure Buttons (CTA): Click your main Call-to-Action button. In the sidebar, you can change the label (e.g., "Start Free Trial") and set the URL. For a waitlist, you can link this to a simple form.
  • Manage Sections: You'll build your page using "Containers." You can add new containers for things like testimonials or features, or delete template sections you don't need.
  • Check Mobile View: Use the mobile icon in the top right to ensure your page looks clean and readable on a phone. Carrd is mobile-responsive by default, but it's always good to check.
  • Publish: Click the save icon, give your site a title and URL, and publish. You can use a free .carrd.co domain for testing or connect a custom domain on a Pro plan.
Test your understanding!

Imagine you're building the landing page for "SyncUp AI" (the Slack summarization tool from our last lesson) using Carrd.

You've chosen a template. What are the first three distinct actions you would take inside the Carrd editor to customize it for your product?

Show answer

Based on the process we've outlined, the first three actions would be:

  1. Edit the Hero Headline: Click on the main headline text and replace the template's content with your primary, attention-grabbing headline, such as "Drowning in endless Slack channels?"
  2. Edit the Sub-headline: Click the text element below the headline and paste in your agitate/solution copy, like "Stop wasting hours scrolling. SyncUp AI automatically summarizes your conversations..."
  3. Configure the Main CTA Button: Click the primary button, change its label to "Join the Waitlist" or "Get Early Access," and set it to either open a sign-up form or link to an external one.

The Upgrade Path: Advanced Workflows with Webflow and AI

While Carrd is perfect for speed, you'll eventually want more design control and functionality. This is where Webflow excels. Your CS background gives you an advantage here, as Webflow's model of styling classes, divs, and layouts will feel familiar, but in a visual environment.

A modern, highly efficient workflow combines AI for initial structure and Webflow for the build.

I Built a $10k SaaS Website in 1 Hour using AI

This video from Rafael Rabl demonstrates a professional-grade workflow for building a SaaS website incredibly fast. It's a perfect example of how to leverage AI for the heavy lifting.

Watch from 01:33 to 13:27. Don't worry about following every single click. Instead, focus on understanding the four major stages of the process: AI-Driven Structure (01:33): Using a custom GPT to generate a sitemap and page sections from a simple product description. Wireframing (03:31): Arranging the generated sections into a visual layout (wireframe) inside a tool called Reloom. Styling (07:43): Applying a style guide (colors, fonts, button styles) to the wireframe. Export & Refine (11:06): Exporting the entire structure and style directly into Webflow, creating an almost-complete site ready for final polishing.

This workflow shows the future of rapid web development. You use AI to handle the initial architectural and content suggestions, then use a powerful builder like Webflow to bring it to life with full creative control.

For Reference: Unbounce and Foleon

  • Unbounce is another powerful tool focused squarely on conversion. It's less about building a full website and more about creating dedicated, high-performance pages for ad campaigns, with robust A/B testing features. The "How to Build an Unbounce Landing Page" guide (LINK) is a good resource to bookmark for when you start running paid traffic.
  • Foleon is a similar tool that helps you to create interactive sales and marketing collateral without any code. It might be helpful to review the article "What is a landing page" to review the basics.

Conclusion

You are now equipped to turn your ideas, copy, and structural plans into a tangible, live landing page. The key is to match the tool to the task: use simple, fast builders like Carrd for validation, and graduate to more powerful tools like Webflow as your product matures. By starting with a template, you leverage proven layouts and can focus your energy on what matters most: your messaging and value proposition.

Key Takeaways:

  • Carrd is ideal for rapidly launching single-purpose landing pages to test SaaS ideas.
  • The building process is straightforward: choose a template, then click elements to edit their content and style in a sidebar.
  • The core task is to replace placeholder content with the compelling, framework-driven copy you've already developed.
  • For more complex projects, an advanced workflow involves using AI tools like Reloom to generate a structure and then exporting to a powerful builder like Webflow for refinement.
  • Always choose the tool that gets you to your next milestone the fastest. For an unvalidated idea, that milestone is getting a page live to gauge interest.

Preview of the Next Lesson:
A landing page is incomplete without compelling visuals. Your hero section needs a "hero shot"—an image or graphic that visually explains your product. In our next lesson, you will learn to generate ad creative concepts and visuals for the landing page using Midjourney or Canva's AI features, creating the visual assets needed to make your page pop.
